Relations between emotional quotient and creativity in the students of painting education department

1ABSTRACTTo be able to determine whether there are any relations between emotional quotientand creativity in the students of painting education or not is the main aim of this research.Evaluating the relations between the subscales of emotional quotient and creativity and,interaction level among emotional quotient data and chosen independent variables aresecondary aims.The research has a descriptive characteristic. The population for this study compriseduniversity students who have been educating in the painting education department of fine arteducation faculties of Dokuz Eylül, Gazi and Pamukkale Universities. The sample wasconstituted total 360 students by choosing 30 students in every class from the populationrandomly.The data were gotten by using Bar-On EQ-i, Torrance Tests of Creative Thinking(TTCT-Verbal A) and a personal information form to the participants in the January-February of 2005. Firstly, EQ-i was evaluated, than considering that evaluating TTCT whichis a kind of qualitative scale was so difficult, it was needed choosing the second samplethrough the first sample. The participants? EQ level was realized as layers for the secondsample choosing. Every layer was limited with a range of % 25 percentages and than; 80students were chosen randomly in them.After the statistical analyzes, a positive and significant relation between total EQ andcreative thinking of the students was found. Besides, the investigations as required bysecondary aims were indicated that there were significant relations among total EQ or itssubscales with sexuality, university in which schooling, being what child of family in, theregion in which living more, mother?s education level and attitude of family.Consequently, the outcomes of this study were showed that the creativity hadincreased, if the EQ had been increasing and %7 percentages of the total variance in thecreativity had derived from EQ. In the light of literature, results have been discussed and, ithas been given suggestions.
