Evaluation of the exlibris studies designed in the art of printing workshop courses according to the design elements and principles

In this study, it was aimed to identify design problems and measure the usage levels of design elements and principles by evaluating the exlibris works, which were put forward by the computer generated design and linoleum printing technique, by Art Teacher Education students which are 3rd and 4th grade students of the original printmaking art studio and 4th grade students of elective art studio lesson, in terms of the design elements and principles.It is examined that if there is a meaningful difference among design elements and principles according to types of printing technique. Also, adaptive values of interraters which are used in exlibris work evaluations are examined. In the research survey design is used. From Survey Designs, Cross-sectional Survey Design which helps collecting data simultaneously and examining individuals' application levels is preferred. Students designed black and white exlibris works by computer generated design and linoleum printing technique. An "Exlibris Evaluation Form" is prepared in order to evaluate works. 80 exlibris designs are sent to 5 field experts with evaluation forms and these designs are evaluated by 20 criteria. Research indicates that interraters' compatibility levels are average and good on evaluating design elements, good and very good on evaluating design principles. Exlibris designs are found successful in terms of design elements. They are found successful in terms of design principles as well, except a criterion. According to raters, usage of typographic items in design principles is moderately successful. According to printing technique, usage of design elements shows no meaningful difference. Similarly, printing technique shows no meaningful difference according to design principles apart from "Readability and Usage of Typographic Items". Points taken from linoleum printing technique in readability and usage of typographic items are significantly lower than computer generated design. Effect of printing technique is average on "readability of typographic items" and low on "usage of typographic items".
