An analysis of the appearance of avangarde images in painting through exspressionist theory

Images and the form of human body have been an integral part of painting for ages. Figure in painting has always intrigued the artists, and this image has been enriched and diversified through symbols, motives, and objects. All the symbols, images, and objects utilized by artists have significantly altered the content, form, and meaning of art work. Figurative images, the research focus of this thesis study, have been analyzed in terms of the effect of image in painting, Avant Garde images used in painting, and with respect to the relation between figure and object. Each artist and each theory in art has their own unique perspectives, thoughts, and intuitions about the world. That is the very reason why image, figure, and Avant Garde theory have undergone tremendous changes during the course of time. In this sense, the images utilized in figurative painting have been researched and analyzed as regards the relation between figure and object, and the works of Brueghel and Goya, two leading Avant Garde artists, have been examined. A review has been attempted for the meaning jointly created by the figures, images and objects used by these artists in their figurative works. In this thesis study, meanings emerging as a result of using images and objects simultaneously in figurative painting have been examined, an evaluation of figurative painting has been provided in terms of images and Avant Garde period, and a literature review has been accomplished with regards to all related phenomena and concepts through reference to two artists, all of which are presented with relevant findings.
