Abstract (EN)

Reşit Süreyya Gürsey, who lived in the years between 1889-1962, is a military physician, a physicist, a teacher, an engineer, a painter, a poet and a literary critic. During his military service, he battled in the Dardanelles Battle and Turkish War of Independence. After he had studied physics and maths in Europe, he wrote works about science and literature. Poesy and criticism constitute his man of letters. The thesis aims to determine Gürsey's position in the history of literature by analyzing his literary works. Following this aim, the scope of the study is limited to only his literary works. Interview with resource people, library surveys, translating from Ottoman scripts is principal methods used in the thesis. The thesis consists of three chapters apart from the introduction and conclusion. In the first chapter, his life and art are explained by enriching with various anecdotes. The second chapter is a split-up examination of thematic and form of his poems. As for in the third chapter classifying and analyzing of his stories and essays are made. Findings gained in the research are commentated using the poesy of Reşit Süreyya as the base in conclusion. The texts based on the thesis and an album by Reşit Süreyya have given identity discs of his poems and essays in the appendixes part.
