Abstract (EN)

Historical buildings which are disseminators of the scientific, artistic, technological and social messages from their period are witnesses of the history. The power which causes this situation and uncovers their unique identity is because of the connection between the historical buildings and "place". This connection for restoration processes is found voice in protection of the "Spirit of Place" and nowadays the restoration made by without this overview can cause to lose the message which historical building requires to give. Interior architecture is thought that it will make a contribution the spirit of place during the restoration by knowing the concept of spirit of place, examine the spatial relationships on a smaller scale and adding detail domination and predict the structure of today's modern requirements. According to this aim, this thesis evaluate in first part the relationship between interior architecture profession and historical environmental protection, in second part concept of spirit of place and prominent main theoretic approach for protection of spirit of place, in third part guiding with these approaches Eskişehir Kurşunlu Complex Caravanserai's restoration is evaluated. The conclusion part of the thesis with assessment on sample area is demostrates the place of interior architecture for restoration processes and how can it contribute to protect the spirit of place.
