ABSTRACT PhD THESIS A LINEAR PROGRAMMING APPROACH FOR PRODUCTION PLANNING IN RING AND OPEN-END YARN SPINNING SYSTEMS AND ITS INDUSTRIAL APPLICATION Emel Ceyhun SABIR DEPARTMENT OF INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING INSTITUTE OF NATURAL AND APPLIED SCIENCES UNIVERSITY OF ÇUKUROVA Supervisor: Prof. Dr. Erdem KOÇ Year: 2000, Page: 209 Jury : Prof. Dr. Erdem KOÇ Prof. Dr. Ali îhsan SÖNMEZ Yrd. Doç. Dr. Rızvan EROL Spinning is a production area within textile sector. In a spinning mill, many types of yarns are produced using different raw materials. Spinning process consists of a number of processes, which are blending-opening-cleaning, carding, drawing I, drawing n, roving and ring. In a typical spinning mill, production planning attempts to determine the optimum yarn production quantities that maximise the total profit with limited resources of raw material, machinery and labour. In this thesis, a linear mathematical programming model is developed to solve the production planning problem faced in spinning mills considering the relevant production costs. The developed model is applied on an existing spinning mill and the results obtained are discussed. Key Words : Yarn spinning systems, production planning, linear programming. n
