Abstract (EN)
This study examined the predictor roles of risky health behaviors and sleep problems regarding peer bullying experiences (bullying perpetration and victimization). For this purpose, data were collected from 325 (164 were girls and 161 were boys) high school students studying in the public and private high schools of Mardin. The data were obtained by using Olweus Bullying Questionnaire, Risky Health Behaviors Scale, Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index and demographics form. Analyses of the data were made with Pearson correlation analysis, ANOVA and multiple regression analysis. The results of the analysis showed that male students experienced more peer bullying perpetration, more peer bullying victimization and more physical health problems. A significant difference between 9th grade students and 12th grade students in their nutrition problems behavior was detected, although it was not statistically significant. Findings of the multiple regression analysis revealed that physical health problems, nutrition problems and sleep problems predicted peer bullying victimization. Peer bullying was only predicted by sleep problems. The findings of this study showed that peer bullying is a fundamental problem for high school students negatively affecting the health of high school students. The findings of this present study provides evidence, to psychological counselors, parents and school administrators, that peer bullying is not only linked to psychological effects but it is also associated with physical health problems.
