In this period of rapidgrowth in the construction industry, it is of great importance to use proper materials. Because, after theconstruction is finished, if non-standard materials have been used, it might cause problems which cannotbe compensated in the bearing components of the construction.In this study, with regard to the choice of proper materials and the manufacturing of concrete,which have been an important problem in Rize and the nearby areas, the proper and economical ways tomanufacture concrete have been investigated by examining the aggregates of Hemşin and Firtina streams.Various experiments have been made for determine physical and mechanical properties ofaggregate of Hemşin and Firtina stream. Besides it is supervised that if there is any harmful materials ornot in these aggregates.Various fresh and hardening concrete tests are made and suitability of aggregates for productionconcrete is investigated. After the experimental results, it is concluded that Hemşin and Firtina streamaggregates are available for making concrete. During the empirical studies relevant Turkish Standardshave been utilized.Key Words: Aggregate, Concrete
