Abstract (EN)

Throughout the history, today's Iranian region has become home to many civilizations that are quite important from historical perspective. There is no doubt that among those civilisations the most important ones are as follows; Achaemenids (Persians), Arsacids (Parthians), Sassanids (Neo-Persians). These civilisations whose one's rise to power stemmed from demise of one other, that is, each being continuation of each other considered themselves for so long as they existed in the history of civilizations as the sovereign of the east. In this respect Parthians, which comprises of the topic of our thesis, also had their struggle with Rome for more than two centuries over the sovereignty. Positive bilateral relations that had been initiated during Sulla's activities in the east and with the first peace treatment signed in BC 92 would leave its place to the hostilities in time. It is seen that the most important factors which led to war between two countries were the rivalry over the dominance of Armenia and Euphrates. This animosity which had been commenced with the Battle of Carrhae led by Crassus in BC 53 kept alive until the defeat of Macrinus against Parthians in AD 218 when he was forced to make peace. Parthian Empire, no longer could sustain its former power during that period, would be expelled from the history in AD 227 with the murder of the last Parthian King V Artabanus by Sassanid King Ardashir.
