Romalılaşma üzerine bir çalışma: Efes'in Teras Evleri

This study aims to explore the extent of Romanization in Ephesus through the close study of Terrace House II. There is a great amount of scholarship burgeoning around the term Romanization. On the other hand very few of these studies have concentrated on the domestic level. The intention of this thesis is to bring attention to the domestic realm of Ephesus in the light of this concept and explore the subtle changes in its private architecture during these times of cultural change.Combining theoretical work with practice, it will focus on the relationship between culture, domestic space and how the two notions are interlinked as well as how they are reciprocally indicative. The analysis throughout the thesis will raise broader debates on the relation of cultural identity, ethnicity and architecture where a multi-disciplinary approach will be employed. Finally the work will center around one Residential Unit which will be studied in terms of its layout, decorations and function of spaces in the light of the theories discussed in previous chapters, reaching a conclusion about the extent of Romanization.
