Abstract (EN)
A systematic romanization policy was adopted by the Roman rulers in the cities of Pisidia in Asia Minor, as in all regions that were under the political domination of Rome. In this context, cities with certain qualities were declared Roman colonies. Cremna in Pisidia Region was one of these cities. Romanization policy has led to changes in many political, social, religious, and cultural areas with the purpose of creating a common culture and consciousness in all the lands of the empire. Roman rulers used various propaganda elements to strengthen and maintain their rule in the lands under their domination. One of these elements is coins. These small oval objects, in addition to their value as money, have also become a propaganda tool used to reach the society with the depictions they feature. In order to understand how they were used in this way, Cremna coins have been evaluated under the Romanization policy. In the study, first the location and history of Cremna, the research on Cremna, the people of Cremna, Romanization of the city, and the acculturation process have been discussed. Then, Cremna coins have been examined under four main headings: Roman colony types, types associated with the empire, mythological types, other types related to the city. Having a rich local culture and an intense ethnic diversity, it was understood that the preferred types on the coins of Cremna served as a systematic Romanization policy through various propaganda strategies. With all these activities, Rome was able to keep the large ethnic diversity within its borders together, not only with repressive political and military authorities, but also with effective political strategies. With these strategies, Rome has been able to maintain dominance on a very wide area for many years by pursuing an Acculturation process towards integration in many regions under its rule.
