Examination of romantic relationship and partner themed obsessions and compulsions in terms of schema fields

ABSTRACT In the scope of the study, the relationship between each other's romantic relationship obsessions and compulsions and partner-themed obsessive-compulsive symptoms was discussed. Also, the effect of schema fields of participants on their romantic relationship obsessions and compulsions and partner-themed obsessive compulsive symptoms was examined. Sample of the research consists of 145 women and 145 men who are over 18 years old and currently have a romantic relationship. They live in Kırıkkale (48.6%), Ankara (18.6%), Mersin (15.2%), Istanbul (3.8%) and other provinces (13.8%). Comitative of the sample have three different group that consist of dear couple (23.1%), oral / engaged couple (6.6%) and married couple (69.6%). The relationship duration of the couples varied between 15 days and 424 months (N = 290, Avg = 128). In working content four different test scales were applied to the participants that are Demographic Information Form to determine demographic information, Obsession and Compulsion Scale of Romantic Relationship(ROCI) to measure obsession and compulsion degree of partners interested in romantic relationship, Obsessive and Compulsive Symptoms Scale of Partners (PROCSI) to measure obsessive and compulsive symptoms level of partners and Young Schema Scale Short Form-3 (YSQ-SF3) was applied to evaluate the schema areas. As a result of the analyzes, a significant relationship was found between each other's romantic relationship obsessions and compulsions and partner-themed obsessive compulsive symptoms. It was found that those who significantly predicted the obsessions and compulsions of the romantic relationship-themed subjects were the type of association with the impaired autonomy, excessive alertness schema domains and relationship duration. Those who significantly predicted partner-themed obsessive-compulsive symptoms were also found to be associated with impaired autonomy, excessive alertness and relationship duration. The findings obtained within the scope of the research were discussed in the light of the related literature.
