Abstract (EN)

When we investigate the influence of France and Russia in the independence process of the Romanian State, the interests of Russia and France on Romania differ. Two policies stand out among the reasons why Russia is interested in Romania. These; It was panslavism and a policy of landing on warm seas. One of the main obstacles for Russia to implement these two policies was the Principalities of Wallachia and Bogdan. For a long time, Russia wanted to achieve its goal by occupying these principalities. However, Russia has not been able to achieve its goals as a result of the interventions of European states. In the period up to the Crimean War of 1853, Russia wanted to take the territories of Wallachia and Boghdan with wars. With the war of 1853, Russia realized that it could not annex these two principalities to its territory. With the outcome of the war, another European state became interested in these two principalities. That power was France. Napoleon III, who became emperor with a coup d'état in France, pursued a conservative, that is, oppressive and religious-based policy at home, while he pursued a libertarian policy abroad. France was interested in the Wallachian and Boghdan Principalities because Romanians believed they were of Latin origin and wanted to establish a balance of power in the east of Europe that was in its favor. After the Crimean War, he ensured the unification of the Wallachian and Boghdan Principalities with the meetings held in Paris, the capital of France, and gathered them around a common prince and parliament. France has deployed its own soldiers for the training of military units established in Wallachia and Bogdan. Thus, he tried to increase his influence here. France and Russia acted partly jointly at the Paris meetings. Russia has supported France's proposals in order to secure the support of France in general. France managed to implement its policies regarding Romania until the Sedan War of 1870. But France, which was defeated by Prussia in 1870, could not continue its policies regarding Romania. In this period, Russia has taken action again. But this time, instead of the policy of occupying Romania, Russia wanted to make Romania independent as an ally to it. In the War of 93, which took place between Russia and the Ottoman Empire between 1877-1878, Romania made a treaty with Russia and joined the war on the side of Russia. With the Edirne Armistice and Ayastafanos Treaties made after the war, the Ottoman Empire was forced to accept the independence of Romania. The European powers, disturbed by Russia's gains, held a meeting in Berlin to review the treaty. With the Treaty of Berlin signed at the end of this meeting, Romania's independence was once again confirmed and the European states accepted it.
