Reflections of power and status in the women portraits of Renaissance and Baroque

Portrait; It includes works produced in all art movements throughout history, which completely give the character and expression of a person, and which set out from the urge of artists to transfer these expressions on a surface as paint, graphics, pattern or a sculpture material. This study consists of four parts. The first part is concluded by giving place to the problem situation of the study, purpose and importance, problem and sub-problem sentences, limitations and definitions. In the second part, the concept of portrait was defined and the historical development of portrait art in the process from the Roman period to the Renaissance period was examined, and the concepts of power and status were examined sociologically. In addition, the culture and art environments of the Renaissance and Baroque periods were examined in terms of society, philosophy, thought, science and art, and the image of women and their social positions in the society were discussed. Finally, in the fourth chapter containing the Findings, female portraits, selfportraits and group portraits created by both male and female artists in Renaissance and Baroque Art were examined in terms of their reflections of power and status within the scope of 23 artists and 25 works. In this way, the approaches of artists from different periods and different countries to women's portraits were examined and the study was completed.
