Abstract (EN)

Ruthenium (Ru) bipyridine coordination complexes are important materials owing to their anodic and cathodic electroactivity and electrochromic behavior. Metalopolymers achieved by combining conducting polymers and metal complexes are a new class of material that exhibit improved optoelectronic properties. In this study, it is aimed to prepare Ru complexes containing an electrochemically polymerizable group SNS (2,5-dithienylpyrrole) synthesize the polymers by electrochemical method and investigate the optoelectronic and electrochromic properties of these polymers. For this purpose, SNS-L Ru complex containing (SNS-Ru) and not containing (SNS-L) compounds were prepared and their electrochemical behavior was investigated. It was determined that the synthesized monomers have very low oxidation potential and the presence of rigid groups does not pertube polymerization. The electrochemical behaviors of homopolymers (P(SNS-L) and P(SNS-Ru)) were investigated by cyclic voltammetry technique. Unlike P(SNS-L) and other P(SNS)s in the literature, P(SNS-Ru) showed activity in both anodic and cathodic regions. The electrochromic properties of P(SNS-L) and P(SNS-Ru) were evaluated by colorimetric analysis, spectroelectrochemistry and kinetic studies. As a result of spectroscopic studies, it was determined that the electronic delocalization among SNS backbone and Ru complex was prevented by the spacer group and accordingly P(SNS-Ru) showed ambipolar and multichromic features. In addition, the copolymers of SNS-Ru and EDOT (3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) were prepared and investigated for their optoelectronic properties. Studies have shown that copolymerization could improve fundamental properties of the polymer; such as bandgap, oxidation potential, switching time and optical contrast, and copolymerization could serve as an effective tool for enhancing the color pallet of P(SNS) polymers.
