Domestic relations of individuals with mental illness: The case of Bolvadin

The aim of this thesis is to problematize the relationships of individuals with mental illness within the family through different variables in the Bolvadin sample. From the birth of an individual, education begins in the family. The first place where communication also begins is the family. The individual reflects the intra-family relations to the society. The approach of the family with love and attention positively affects the individual's relationships with other people. Along with the experience of disconnection in inter-family relations, the family's apathetic attitude causes problems in the relationships of individuals with other people. Individuals with mental illness are stigmatized as individuals who do not know what to do when and who should be kept away. Stigmatized individuals, people in their immediate surroundings are affected by stigma. Individuals with mental health problems face the prejudices of society while struggling to cope with the disease. As a result of the exclusion and stigmatization of these individuals, the individual wants to distance himself from other people. This study examined the problems experienced by individuals with mental illness in family and interpersonal relationships. In the study, the family relationships of individuals with mental illness were considered and evaluated. In the collection of data in the study, interview technique was used within the scope of qualitative research method. The collected data were interpreted by conducting content analysis.
