Spiritual leadership and an evaluation as to whether it can be applied to educational organizations

The twenty first century represents a novel rendezvous not only with its technology, business models and economy but also with the underlying set of concepts and values. Although the returns of this renowned technology and information age seem to have facilitated our lives in many respects, it confuses us with its novelties instilled in all walks of life, and forces individuals and organizations into a perpetual process of learning and renovating. This circulation has increased the societal need for leaders and imposed new approaches to leadership. Today, the classical management and leadership approaches based on authoritarian and oppressive power have been outdated, and modern leadership models have been developed all over the world, as organizational and educational leaders of such approaches have failed to comprehend the heart, mind and spirit of their followers. This thesis aims at explaining the concept of spiritual leadership and making an evaluation of its applicability in educational organizations. The method used in the study is complementary assessment, one of the literary review methods. The data gathered shows that spiritual leadership has emerged with a view to improving organizational productivity and commitment through addressing followers? senses of calling and membership and, with this respect, that it is applicable in educational organizations.Key Words: Spiritual leadership, commitment, calling and membership
