A nexus-4 eeg experiment: The effect of the sabâ music mode on the brain waves as theta and alpha

Different methods have been used in interdisciplinary studies on music and brain and Alls' common subject is perception. In this study, it was aimed to investigate whether there is a change in Theta and Alpha waves by listening music to the students studying in different branchs and applying instant EEG shooting. The study was carried out by listening to a music in Sabâ mode (Turkish music mode) to the participants who received education in three different fields (mathematic, literature and musical). This research was carried out using an survey model. In order to obtain the data of the study, university students who received education in different fields were applied a Beck Depression Test which measured their instant emotions before the experiment stage. After that, instant EEG was performed with Nexus-4 Neurofeedback device by listened at The Sabâ mode music. At the end of the experiment, participants' comments were recorded about The Sabâ mode music. As a result of the research; when the Theta and Alpha waves were examined among all the participants, the values increased 7 participants in the music field, 7 participants in the literature field, 5 participants in the mathematic field, and the values of the remaining participants decreased. When interpreted in descriptive terms, the values of the participants increased in the music and literature field. According to the gender variable; When the Theta and Alpha waves were examined. Among male participants, 4 participants in the field of music, 4 participants in the literature field, 1 participant in the mathematic field; among female participants, 4 participants in the mathematic field, 3 participants in the music field, 3 participants in the literature field, the values increased and the values of the remaining participants decreased. When interpreted in descriptive terms, the highest increasing was observed that participants in the music and literature field among male participants and participants in the mathematic field among female participants. In increasing values, it is thought that the participants feel the emotions such as dreaming, relaxation and liking to the music. They feel feelings of discomfort and dislike, in decreasing values.
