Abstract (EN)

Sabahattin Ali is a genuine figure for the contemporary Turkish literature; that is in favor of "art is for society's sake" and an author embodied in the society. His understanding of reaslism is of great importance as it is in a level of social reality. Discussing people according to theis status in the social ladder Sabahattin Ali could be able to reflect the inequality and boss-worker relations in his works, and able to create an utopia world in his tales. Examining the deficiencies in the society Sabahattin Ali has his place as an author of rural life in the world of Turkish literature.Explaining not what is supposed to but what reality is, Sabahattin Ali focuses on the women, poverty, illiteracy, subdued topics in the works on which he regards Anatolia as a place. The women figures that he created in the country life are socially free and highly educated. They had all kinds of education and they have the privilege to choose whatever they want.In one of his speeches Sabahattin Ali argued that the education of the women in Anatolia is highly discarded, and the position of women in the society depends on themselves at a great aspect saying that women themselves should wish to receive education. In his works, early arranged marriages, uneducated women and education just for the purpose of finding a better husband are among the generally focused topics. In his novels he tries to create a modern woman from the rural women characters. Examining the women with the neighbourhood they ara in he tries to take attention to the effect of society on the character. With maria for instance he reflects a totally feminist character. In the works of Sabahattin Ali the position of the women in the society, poor Anatolian women, the sorrow that poor girls suffer and effects of the traditions on the women's lifestyles, money relation's keeping women away from being humane are highly seen through a socially realistic view. While making that, Sabahattin Ali brings to his readers a critical view. When Sabahattin Ali's works are read one can conclude that education makes a women much more independent. That is among the reasons that Sabahattin Ali needs to be investigated. The author made us to focus on the problems of the women by shoving us opposite poles e.g. strong or weak, money centered or pride centered.
