Sadr al‐Sharia's understanding of usûl and his place in tradition of Hanafî usûl

In this study, Sadr al‐Sharia's (d. 747/1346) approach to the subjects of usul al-fıqh and his contributions to the thinking of Hanefî usul was examined. The study fills an important gap in this area because of studying Sadr al‐Sharia's usul thinking with a holistic approach. Our thesis, consists of two parts besides introduction and conclusion parts. In the introduction part, has been given information about our research, its significance, purpose, resources and the lives of Sadr al‐Sharia and his works. In the first part, has been studyied Sadr al‐Sharia's thoughts about of the sharia evidence, word and provision issues. In this way, Sadr al‐Sharia's approaches about the subjects of usul al-fıqh have been determined and evaluated as comparative with tradition of Hanafî usul al-fıqh.The second section, have been focused on the characteristic features of Sadr al‐Sharia's usul thinking. In this context, has been studied the system that he adopted during the classification of subjects of usul and the relation between the his understanding of the usul al-fıqh and the disciplines of logic and thelogy. In this section also Sadr al‐Sharia's contribution to the understanding of Hanafî usul was discussed and individual opinions were evaluated. With this study, it has been reached the conclusion that Sadr al‐Sharia played an effective role in shaping the next period of the Hanafî usul understanding. The other results we have obtained are summarized in the conclusion.
