Abstract (EN)

In this study, the concept of civil society and its historical, legal, social and intellectual dimensions in Turkey has been examined. The concept of civil society is embodied by Non-governmental organizations (NGOs) which are quite wide and strategically important institutions. The purpose of this thesis is to develop an innovative and original communication model for NGOs operating in the health field in order to assist them in communicating more effectively and effectively. Existing literature on civil society is reviewed in the first part. When the development of NGOs in the world is analyzed, it is seen that they move away from the state-centered approach and transform into social initiatives. In terms of NGOs preferred communication methods with their target audiences, the effects of technological developments can be observed in the design of campaigns. In line with social developments and technological resources, it is indispensable for NGOs to concentrate their communication efforts towards online activities, particularly on social media. In order to assess the current communication tendencies among NGOs, the most successful ones around the world were taken as a benchmark sample. These organizations were analyzed with the situation analysis and content analysis method. With the findings obtained, it has been observed that establishing a transparent and dialogue-free communication plays a vital role in reaching the target audience. When the communication techniques used are examined, the importance of identifying with the target audience and gaining their trust have been unmistakably revealed. With the aim of creating a process that harnesses all intellectual traditions and blends with today's technological resources, a communication model has been proposed for NGOs. The proposed model was presented to communication experts from Turkey's leading NGOs through face to face interviews and was validated through expert opinion and feedback. The operating principles and application scenario of the proposed model to be carried out on a mobile platform are shared in detail in the conclusion section.
