Health professionals' attitudes towards family planning methods summary

This research was conducted as a descriptive study to determine the attitudes of healthcare professionals working at Çankırı State Hospital towards family planning. The sample of the study consisted of Çankırı State Hospital healthcare workers (n = 211). Research data was collected between 24 October 2022 and 24 April 2023 using the 'Personal information form' and 'Family Planning Attitude Scale'. In the analysis of the data, Independent Sample t test, "Mann-Whitney U" test, "Kruskal-Wallis H" test analyzes were used. According to the results of the research, it was determined that 76.8% of the participants were women, 56.4% were nurses, 51.2% were undergraduate graduates, and 73% were married. Most of the employees stated that the source of information about family planning was school (54.2%) and the most used family planning method was determined as condom (47%). The average Family Planning Attitude Scale score of the study participants was found to be 146.12±17.89. According to the gender of the participants, the average score was found to be significantly higher in women, married people, and participants with a master's degree or above (p˂0.05). As a result, the attitudes of health professionals towards family planning were found to be positive but inadequate. It is recommended that health professionals who play an active role in family planning counseling follow the current developments on the subject in order to recommend the appropriate family planning methods when necessary or to provide better quality service to prevent misuse.
