Opinions of healthcare professionals on the use of hospital information systems: The example of Elazığ province

Information technology, as in many other fields, plays a crucial role in the healthcare sector. With the advancing technology, healthcare institutions' utilization of information and communication systems provides significant contributions to these organizations. Every system in healthcare institutions, from patient registration to discharge, is carried out through information systems, ensuring that all processes are conducted in electronic environments. As a result, hospital information systems play an essential role in error-free processing of work processes for healthcare workers and management, and in making correct decisions. The aim of this study is to determine the information technologies and skills healthcare workers possess while using hospital information systems, as well as their beliefs regarding the benefits of these systems in healthcare organizations. The research was conducted with a field study. In this study, a survey was administered to healthcare workers in both private and public hospitals in Elazığ province. A total of 270 questionnaires were obtained, suitable for analysis. The data were analyzed using the SPSS statistical software. Descriptive statistics, reliability analysis, exploratory factor analysis, independent sample t-tests, and ANOVA tests were performed. As a result of the analysis, the scale used for hospital information systems was divided into five dimensions: user security, efficiency, usability, benefits, and ease of use. Differences in perceptions based on socio-demographic characteristics were examined. Overall, no significant differences in perceptions were found among healthcare workers. Furthermore, it was determined that healthcare workers' perceptions were generally at a high level. Key Words: Hospital Information Systems, Information Systems, Information Technolog
