Problem in health philosophy :Situation of elder patients on phisicion-patient relationship

The relationship between physician and patient is a very important issue for satisfaction of patients and to reach goal of treatment. There are specific purposes in the relationship between patients and the physician. These are the diagnosis, ordering treatment programme, starting to treatment, being in collaboration with patients and to inform patient about the disease sufficiently. In the realization process of these objectives patient must have confidence in his/her physician, to feel being valueable, able to ask questions and get answers to questions and to express oneself is very important.In the relationship between patient and physician, the satisfaction of physicians is important as the satisfaction of the patient. Because this relationship is not one-sided relationship. Physicians in the light of the information given by patients can diagnose his/her illness and if the results of his efforts are positive it can be satisfied to the physician. If the attitude of patient is unconcerning or retiring, physicians leads to feel uncomfortable.The purpose of this research in the relationship between patient-physician is being contributed to the expectations of elderly patients and in the realization level of these expectations, also to the expectations of physicians to perform the treatment process.The field study was carried out in Ankara Atatürk Chest Diseases and Chest Surgery Center Education and Research Hospital policlinics, between the dates of 1 April - 1 May 2007. The sample was composed of the patients(N=100) were coming for examination and treatment to the policlinics and the physicians are(N=30) working in this hospital. Several closed end questions were asked to patients and physicians.Nowadays, technological developments and advances in medical science allow people to live longer and to contribute to the interrogation of the place of the elderly patients in the health system. It is considered that the relationship between the physician and patient is a special one, the elderly patients? expectations will be different and special from the expectations of a young patient's from the physicians. According to research findings elderly patients, firstly think they should be treated more accurately and behaved more sensitive. Elderly patients sometimes have a difficulty to understand explanations given by the physician, in this stuation elderly patient lives a trust problem to the phsician. Most of the elderly patient think that phsicians cannot behave as agist kind.They think physicians behave equally to young people and themselves.Patients feel special, respected and valued when they are met with a smiling face and positively by the physicians.
