Export of health service and the case of Turkey

Since the openning economies of countries accelerated in the 1990s, international services trade effectively took its place in the economy. The presence of health services in the international arena has provided the development of health services and financing the current account deficit thanks to high foreign exchange inflows. Therefore, it is a service item in the balance of payments. In addition, export of health service has helped the development of other service sectors. In this context, the field in question has emerged as a sector that creates added value. Moreover, there are many problems created by the healthcare export. In this context, the aim of the thesis is to understand the health service, which is the basis of healthcare export and to evaluate the problems that may arise from the sector ethically. In addition, the suitability of health services in Turkey for healthcare export has been examined. The healthcare export income can also affect the current account deficit in Turkey has frequently emphasized in theory. In the thesis it was tested empirically. In the period 2002:Q1-2019:Q4 analysis was applied by including tourism revenues, service imports, real exchange rate and economic growth. According to the results obtained using Lee-Strazich structural break unit root test, Vector Autoregression Model and Johansen Cointegration Test, export of health services has affected the current account deficit by low rate. In addition, it has been determined that there is a long-term relationship between the series.
