Public relations action in health systems

Public relations is of vital significance not only for the health sector but also for all other sectors. Especially in today?s mentality of modern management, public relations has a firm place in the applications of total quality management.Public relations have gained importance since the notion has human relations as its core value. Besides, changing social conditions play an undeniable role in making public relations crucial.The applications of public relations are constantly becoming more important in health sector and hospitals. This is basically because there is no chance to evaluate the medical service technically for the patient who is going to a hospital. Existing asymmetrical information results in a patient?s evaluation of the means of received service, the place of the service, and the people rendering the service rather than the sole service.Public relations in hospitals function to please the patients and increase fruitfulness. Accordingly, in sectors of service and in hospitals, a well-developed unit of public relations is essential.In this study, public relations notion, public relations applications in health organizations and the importance of public relations are mentioned. The survey was performed on the 19 surgeon generals and vice-chancellors which working for education and research hospitals placed in Istanbul. This survey have 12 questions and this survey is showed official managers in health sector how are they looking public relations.Key Words: Public Relations, Health.
