Abstract (EN)
This research is planned in order to determine and evaluate the effect of the health education given according to the Health Belief Model on knowledge and applications of patients who has got Peripheral Arterial Disease. This study is quasi-experimental in time series model with pre-test, post-test one group. The population of this study has consisted of 128 people who were diagnosed Peripheral Arterial Disease and applied to cardiovascular surgery policlinic of a public hospital in Sakarya between the dates of 1 January 2009 ? 31 December 2009 and the study has done with 30 people who are chosen from population in accord with the research criteria. Data has been acquired through the questionary form which is formed researching the relevant literature by the researcher. Pre-test has applied and also the first education has organized during face to face interview with 30 patients within the sample between the dates of 1 January ? 1 February 2010 in the determined day during the telephone call within one month. Every one month after the first education at the meeting, the second and third educations have been performed. After the third education throughout three months, neither with telephone nor face to face an interview was had with the patients. The post-test has been applied in the sixth month after three months and after the beginning during the fourth interview. The gathered data was evaluated by using percentage chi square test, t test and Mann-Whitney-U test. The 50.0 % of the Peripheral Arterial Patients is woman, the 56.7 is at the 55-64 age group, the 83.3 is married and it has detected that the period of a disease of 70.0 % of the Peripheral Arterial Patients is under five years and 80.0 % of them has been diagnosed when they went to hospital for another disease. It has been determined that there was a statistically 0.009-difference (more serious or less serious) between that the patients perceive the seriousness of need-to-know at the hypertension control before education and after education (p<0.005). There is no statistically difference between the peripheral arterial patients? pre-education measurement frequency of blood pressure, diabetes mellitus control, measurement frequency of blood sugar, knowledge and application about necessities for cholesterol level and chiropody, perceiving the seriousness pre-education and post-education, finding beneficial the offers and applying the offers (P>0.05).It has been determined that whereas the Peripheral Arterial Patients perceive ?moderately serious? their disease before education (X:6±1.1), they perceive it ?serious? after education (X:7±0.8); they define the offers ?moderately serious? (X: 5±1.5) before education and after education(X:6±1.0), they define the offers serious (X: 7±1.5) after education; and they apply the offers ?moderately? (X:4±1.3) before education and (X: 6±0.9) after education. It has been concluded that the number of person has increased who perceive the seriousness of PAD, find the offers beneficial and apply the offers before and after education given according to the Health Belief Model but the difference between has no meaning statistically.
