Evaluation of outsourcing in health institutions: The case of Van

Outsourcing is the transfer of activities outside of the core capabilities of the enterprises from one external supplier to another within an agreement. Healthcare institutions that have a complex organizational structure that performs many different business and professional activities in their own right often resort to outsourcing. Institutions intend to provide health services from outsourcing in order to focus more on medical services within their origin skills. Therefore outsourcing provides many benefits in the areas of management and service delivery to healthcare institutions. But there are some risks such as becoming excessively dependent on suppliers, sharing confidental information on institutions and patients to others, reducing the quality of service due to the supplier's focus only cost and losing the basic skills of the institution as well as the benefit of outssourcing. On this basis outsourcing is very important in terms of both healthcare institutions and health care providers. In recent years, outsourcing has been increasingly applied in health care institutions. With this study, it is aimed to examine the benefits and risks of outsourcing method in terms of health institutions. A questionnaire was applied to the management and administrative staff of the public hospitals in Van to collect data. In this study, it has been found that outsourcing provide benefits such as reducing the organisation's work load, following technological innovations, increasing service quality and patient satisfaction, but it does not reduce costs and does not allow staff to focus on the main business. In addition, it has been determined that there are disadvantages such as being dependent on supplier, sharing confidential information about patient and institution to others, loss of basic skills, and poor performance of supplier.
