A research on the happiness of health sector employees. Pilot study at a university hospital

In this study, it is aimed to determine the individual happiness and workplace happiness of health personnel working in university hospital. It is an undeniable fact that working life encompasses a large part of one's daily life. The analysis of business life and happiness, which has such an important place in people's lives, has a great contribution. Effective provision of health services is possible by providing a working life environment that contributes to the performance capacity of health personnel as well as their professional competence. The high level of job satisfaction of the health personnel, being happy in the workplace ensures that they spend their energy only in improving the quality of health care. In this direction, a study was conducted on the happiness of health workers. 150 healthcare professionals working in the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology, Faculty of Medicine, Istanbul University participated in the study. Oxford Happiness Scale and Job-Related Affective Well- Being Perception Scale were used to collect data. According to the results; happiness and job-related affective well-being scores were found to be above average. It was determined that women had significantly higher negative emotions and low levels of affective well-being than men. It was found that older individuals had higher levels of happiness and well-being compared to young people, married individuals had more perception of happiness than single people and happiness perceptions of individuals with one and two children were better than those without. No statistically significant difference was found in the perception of happiness and well-being according to working time, education level, family shape, working position, income level. Considering the level of happiness and well-being of health workers according to these demographic variables, it will be beneficial to evaluate these factors in personnel selection, assignm9ent, career, training and development processes.
