Abstract (EN)

Publications about health issues have been intensively discussed in the last two decades in the related literature. The topic that stands out in these discussions is the commercialization of health-related publication contents. The aim of this study is to de-termine commercial factors affecting the contents of health-related publications and present them through a model. The study was conducted in three phases. In the first phase, the related literature was reviewed, and a theoretical model was developed based on Shoemaker and Reese's (2013) Hierarchical Influences Model and some similar ideas supporting this model. According to Shoemaker and Reese, the factors influencing me-dia contents are observed at the individual, media routines, organizational, extra-media and ideological levels. In the second phase, which involves the test of the model, a total of 200 people, - health sector employees, media professionals and academicians who are experts in their own fields- were asked to reply a survey, and the data collected were analyzed by using exploratory factor analysis method. Later, the factors determined were submitted to 117 different experts and the data were verified in AMOS software. In other words, the model was developed under the light of 317 experts' opinions (200+117). In the third phase of the study, the model was explained based on the opi-nions of 62 experts, who were chosen among 317 experts that participated in the study. As a result, it has been shown that the content of publications on health is affected in five different ways from commercial factors. According to this, media routines, external and ideological levels were the most dominant in the context of trade factors in the field of health publishing. Keywords: Health journalism, health-related contents, factors determining media con-tent, political economy, commercialization in media, ideology.
