Abstract (EN)

This study relates particularly with the Beşköprü which dates back to Eastern Roman (Byzantine) Emperor Justinianus period (527-565 A.D.) located on branch of Çark Stream in the central district of Adapazarı in Sakarya. The study covers the researches to evidence the existing conditions of the bridge and the related structures along with the recommendations for restoration works upon evaluation of the data acquired. The study which includes the text and the drawings comprising the mentioned works has 9 sections. The study which begins with the introductory section briefing the objective, scope and method proceeds with geographical and historical information concerning the location of the bridge and the structures in the 2nd section. In the 3th and 4th sections, the historical data of the bridge and the appurtenances have been defined together with the current status of the same. After analyzing the historical and technical data in section 5, the comparative studies and the pertinent results obtained through the assessment of the examples of similar nature are given in section 6, followed in section 7 with recommendations for restitution as set out in sections 5 and 6. While the restoration processes in which conservation decisions and interventions are defined, are given in section 8, the study ends up with the recommendations and conclusion in section 9.
