Determination of coccoidea (Hemiptera) species and their natural enemies in outdoor ornamental plants of Sakarya province

This study was carried out in Sapanca, Serdivan and Arifiye districts of Sakarya province to determine the species and natural enemies of Coccoidea superfamily found on outdoor ornamental plants which is the second in the production of ornamental plants of Turkey in 2018. Samples were conducted between April and September. In the samples, the species belonging to Coccoidea superfamily found in different outdoor ornamental plants were examined carefully and brought to the laboratory with leaves, branches and stem parts of plant. Samples examined under stereoscopic microscope in the laboratory and cultured in a climatic chamber with temperature 25 ± 1 ° C, humidity 65 ± 10%, 16 hours in the light and 8 hours in the dark. Natural enemies feeding on pests were recorded. The species with host plants were identified as Planococcus vovae (Nasonov) [host plant: Cupressocyparis leylandii (Jacks & Dallim) (Cupressaceae)], Unaspis euonymi (Comstock) [host plant: Euonymus japonicus Thunb. (Celastraceae)], Icerya purchasi (Maskell) [host plant: Pittosporum sp. (Pittosporaceae)], Parthenolecanium corni (Bouché) [host plant: Acer negundo L. (Aceraceae)], Pseudaulacaspis pentagona (Targioni-Tozzetti) [host plant: Morus platanifolia (Moraceae)], Diaspidiotus prunorum (Laing, 1931) [host plant: Hedera helix L. (Araliaceae)], Ceroplastes sinensis Del, Guercio, 1900 [host plant: Acer saccharum Marsh. (Aceraceae), Euonymus alatus (Thunb.) Siebold (Celastraceae)], Lepidosaphes ulmi (Linnaeus) [host plant: Euonymus japonicus Thunb. (Celastraceae)]. Natural enemies include Adalia bipunctata (L.), Chilocorus bipustulatus (L.), Coccinella septempunctata (L.), Exochomus quadripustulatus (L.) (Coleoptera: Coccinellidae); Chrysoperla carnea (Neuroptera: Chrysopidae) and Cybocephalus sp. (Coleoptera: Nitidulidae) were determined.
