Abstract (EN)

INTRODUCTION AND AIM: Depression and anxiety disorders are the most common mental health problems in pregnancy. It is extremely important to identify women at risk as the negative effects of mental health problems such as depression and anxiety disorder on both mother and child health can be reduced with early intervention. In this study, it was aimed to determine the frequency of depression and anxiety disorder in pregnant women and to examine some factors that are thought to be related. MATERIAL AND METHOD: The study is a cross-sectional study carried out between 15.04.2018-15.04.2020 on pregnant women living in Sakarya province and registered in family medicine units. The sample size was calculated as n = 720 by taking the expected depression frequency in pregnant women 35%, margin of error 5%, 95% confidence interval, pattern effect 2 and non-response rate 5%. The data of the study were collected through a questionnaire including sociodemographic information of pregnant women, Hospital Anxiety and Depression Scale (HAD-S) and Edinburgh Postpartum Depression Scale (EPPDS). Chi square, Sperman correlation and multiple logistic regression analyzes were used to evaluate the data. RESULTS: The ages of the study group ranged from 18 to 45 years old, with an average of 29.4 ± 5.3 years. According to the HAD depression subscale, 187 (25.6%) of the pregnant women had a risk of depression and 124 (17.0%) were found to have an anxiety disorder risk according to the anxiety disorder subscale. According to EPPDS, 152 (20.8) of pregnant women were found to have a risk of depression. There was a moderate positive correlation (r = 0.587; p = 0.000) between the scores received from the depression subdivision of the study group HAD-S and the Anxiety subdivision (r = 0.587; p = 0.000), and a moderately positive correlation with the score obtained from the EPPDS (r = 0.627; p = 0.000). In the study, the level of education, spouse support, the number of friends to speak, and the history of psychiatric illness in first degree relatives were variables related to both depression and anxietydisorder. CONCLUSION: In this study, the risk of depression and anxiety disorder was found high during pregnancy. It is extremely important to scan pregnants at certain intervals in order to identify risky persons during pregnancy. KEYWORDS: Pregnancy, depression, anxiety disorder, HAD, EPPDS
