Abstract (EN)

Aim. The aim of this study was to evaluate the therapeutic effects of kinesio banding on the pain and functionality of patients with sacroiliac joint dysfunction. Method. The aim of this study was to investigate the efficacy of kinesiological banding therapy in patients aged between 18 and 60 years who were diagnosed with sacroiliac joint dysfunction in October 2018-March 2019 outpatient clinic of Dokuz Eylul University Faculty of Medicine. The study was carried out in 18 patients with kinesiological banding and 22 patients in the control group. Before and after kinesiology banding, 20-minute and 15th-day physical examination findings, for pain assessment Vizüel Analog Skala and for functionality assessment Oswestry Disability Index scores were evaluated. Data were recorded in the case report form and analyzed with SPSS 23.0. The level of statistical significance was accepted as p <0.05. Results. 27.5% (n = 11) of the patients were male, 72.5% (n = 29) were female, 75% were married (n = 30), the mean age was 40.5 ± 12.2, 52% 5 (n = 21) were overweight or obese, mean BMI was 26.1 ± 5.0. Initial VAS and ODI values were significantly higher than the 15th day values (p = 0.002). While there was no statistically significant difference in the initial physical examination findings between the groups, the posterior friction and sacral pushing test were significantly more positive in the control group than in the 15th day physical examination (p = 0,03). There was no statistically significant difference between the groups in terms of initial VAS scores, whereas VAS scores in the 15th day of kinesiological banding were statistically significantly lower (p = 0.003). When the VAS score was evaluated on the first day and the VAS score difference was evaluated on the 15th day, it was found that the difference in the score of the kinesiological banding group (2.0) was statistically higher than the control group (0,0) (p = 0,005). There were no statistically significant differences between the groups in terms of initial ODI scores, and when the ODI score difference was evaluated at baseline and 15th day, it was found that the difference in score of the kinesiological banding (9.0) was statistically higher than the control group (0,0). (p = 0.004). The VAS and ODI scores of the patients who received kinesiological banding before the treatment decreased statistically significantly at the 15th day (p = 0.004; 0.002, respectively) and the change in the control group was not significant (p> 0.05). In order to evaluate the acute effect of 18 patients who were applied kinesiologic band, no statistical difference was found in the physical examination findings before and after 20 minutes. In the VAS scores evaluated, the VAS score (5.0) was found to be significantly higher than the 20- minute VAS score (3.5) (p = 0.002). xi Conclusion. Our study showed the results of kinesiological banding in terms of pain and disability according to the control group. According to the results of this study, more extensive studies on the effect of kinesiological band application on pain and disability in patients with lower lumbar region pain with sacroiliac dysfunction may reinforce the findings of our study and contribute significantly to lower lumbar region pain treatment and rehabilitation
