Abstract (EN)
This study aimed to investigate the role of interleukin-15 gene polymorphism in the development of atherosclerosis in Salah El-Din Province of Iraq. The study included 90 samples collected from Tikrit State Hospital, 33 female and 27 male 60 atherosclerosis patients and 19 female and 11 male 30 healthy subjects. In the laboratories of Tikrit University/Faculty of Science, tests were performed on blood samples taken from patients and healthy subjects; cholesterol, triglyceride, high-density lipoprotein (HDL-C) and low-density lipoprotein (LDL-C) and very low-density lipoprotein (VLDL), interleukin-15 levels were measured, as well as body mass index (BMI) phenotypic symptoms associated with atherosclerosis; A polymorphism (C267T) of the interleukin-15 gene responsible for interleukin-15 production has also been identified. The results showed statistically significant differences in the frequency of patients' clinical factors for both men and women. The frequency of the disease was higher in women (29 shortness of breath, 24 arrhythmias, 23 leg pain and 25 sweating). Compared with men (21 shortness of breath, 18 arrhythmias, 18 leg pain and 23 sweating). The results also showed a significant increase in measurement indicators (cholesterol, triglycerides, HDL-C, LDL-C, VLDL and Interleukin-15) in the patient sample compared to healthy subjects. In addition, the C267T polymorphism was genotyped and there was a difference in the frequency of (H-) mutant allele between patients with atherosclerosis and healthy individuals because the frequency of the (H-) mutant allele was higher in patients than in healthy individuals and there was an increase in clinical symptoms. Some biochemical features were observed in individuals with the genotype of the (H-H-) mutation.
