Sultanate and the people of Harameyn: Analysis and transliteration of the notebook of the last Harameyn translator, Hacı Ferid Effendi

The Ottoman State's interest in the holy lands and its desire to serve became more formal and systematic activities with the inclusion of the region to the Ottoman geography. As a result of Yavuz Sultan Selim's expedition to Egypt, the Hejaz and Haramayn regions preference the Ottoman administration without any resistance and the gaining the status of "Caliphate" increased the sense of responsibility towards the region. The Ottoman State, for 400 years, provided all the needs of the Hijaz and holy places and as a state policy made efforts for the peace, security and problems. In this context, the work of the "Harameyn Translation Office", which was included in the state bureaucracy for the solution of the problems of those who came to Istanbul temporarily or permanently from the Haramayn Region and fell into financial difficulties, also gained importance as a "service area". This study aims to examine the notebook of Harameyn translator Hacı Farid Bey, which contains the correspondences in the Ottoman archives and the above-mentioned services.
