Reflection of Turkish textile Shaman culture

The effects of Shaman culture taking place In Turkish belief system for centuries on pre-Islamic Turkish art are seen on rock drawings, kurgans and inscriptions. This culture has demonstrated its effects on Turkish Textile Art. For example; the figures, nature pictures, animal figures and bodily parts of animals (feather, finger nail, leg etc.) drawn on private attires and accessories that Shaman put on during ritual, pageants and festival ceremonies are seen on that period's textile products where the belief was widespread. The effect of Shaman culture sustained its continuity over post-Islamic Turkish textile art through geometrically and stylistically changed symbols and figures belonging to Shamans. Still in many cities of Anatolia, especially in Turkmens who are the continuation of Oğuz phratry, the motives formed with Shaman culture are continued to be used on textile products consciously or unconsciously. In Turkey, Eastern Anatolia, Southeastern Anatolia, Central Anatolia and Western Anatolia nomads and a number of ethnic origins are called Turkmens. Turkmen dresses, carpet, plan weave ground cloth, knitting and embroiders Among the motives with animal figures influenced by Shaman culture are birds, hunter birds, gooses, roosters, snakes, scorpions, frogs, turtles, horses, sheep and goats. The herbal motives applied with the influence of Shaman culture are family tree, leave, burdock and spike. In another type of motive that goes on through the influence of this culture involves figures such as sun, star and triangle. Even though these motives have undergone figure alterations during this process they have not changed in terms of belief in desire of application. Today, the Shamanism that still continues and to be continued in Turkish customs, traditions and conventions is like an ineradicable colorful family tree that has rooted in the depths of Anatolian life, harbors a variety of living creatures and has raised its branches toward sky just like praying.
