Samuel Beckett games investigation on comedy and character concepts

One of the most influential writers of the 21st century is Samuel Beckett. The structure established by Beckett was considered a pioneer even in his own time. He is known a pioneer with his plays that broke the usual theatre structure. Considered as a part of the absurd theater movement, Beckett used tragedy and comedy both ontologically and formally. Beckett, who often uses the concepts of nothingness, destruction and disaster in his plays, has built these concepts with the tools of comedy. The plays, which carry the restlessness of their age, shed light on how today's subject is established. When we look at the theater of our world today, we see the traces of Beckett in most of the plays. These traces show us directly the new possibilities of the uncanny comedy. The aim of this thesis is to try to show how the uncanny comedy structures the subject. In the first chapter, how comedy works based on Beckett's theater is examined. It has been looked at how the concepts of comedy and absurd are structurally included in the plays. In the second part, the equivalent of the complex structure of the subject in the plays was examined. The importance of nothingness in the construction of subjectivity has been evaluated through Beckett texts. In the third chapter, it is examined how Beckett's authorship differs from other writers and how he makes use of the relationship between the uncanny and comedy while building the character. In the fourth chapter, how Beckett constructs the world in his plays and the effect of this structure on comedy is examined. In the last part, Beckett's influence on plays written after Beckett is examined. The ultimate aim of the thesis is to present a new interpretation of Beckett's theater and to try to show how uncanny the concept of the subject is as funny.
