Student opinions about the reflection of art education movement to the course programmes of the institutions giving fashion design education

The overall objective of this study is to examine the effects of Minimalism, Surrealism,Op Art, Pop Art and Futurism of the Fashion, their implementation on the education, tointerpret the model surrealist paintings and designs, to analyze the designs produced byundergraduate students and to make conclusions on them.The data on this study have been collected by means of the observation forms to beprepared by the researcher. To do that, it he thesis on literature and similar subjects have beenexamined. Later, the draft observation form has been developed. This draft has beenimplemented on a group of experts and implementers, and their views have been evaluated.The forms which have been concluded under the light of the related views have beenimplemented on the students of Celal Bayar University, Vocational School of Salihli by theresearcher. The data gathered have been evaluated and interpreted.30 students from the Ready-to-Wear Leather Department of Celal Bayar UniversityVocational School of Salihli who have taken cloth design classes and 30 students from thetextile department of the same university who have taken contemporary fashion movementsclasses and practical designership have been selected. The selected students have beenprovided with general knowledge on art and fashion and then fashion and art movements havebeen taught. Minimalism, pop art, op art, surrealism and futurism, the selected art movementshave been explained and sample images have been shown to touch upon their interaction withthe fashion. Designers that belong to each of the selected movements have been explained andreflections on the designs have been demonstrated. The subjects have been determined inaccordance with the explanations and images demonstrated and the students have been askedto design their products considering the art movements. According to the data from theobservation forms, it has been observed that most of the students? designs had been affectedby surrealism and futurism.It has also been observed that the students have been confident as they have beencompletely free.
