Art: Traditional and modern

In this study, we discussed the Traditionalist School's view of art. To reveal their understanding better, it has been proceeded through how the Traditionalists criticize the knowledge of modern art. It is revealed that they believe modern art is both limited and superficial and disconnected from the divine source. These essential claims are handled under three main headings: The main philosophical approaches to art and the artist are included in the first part. After revealing the basic definitions and attitudes on art, we focused on the concepts of creation and beauty, which are very important to the understanding of art; lately, in this chapter, we discussed the art theories of Plato, Aristotle, Kant, and Croce, which are prominent in the history of philosophy. In the second part, we try to explain the main ideas and artistic approaches of Guenon, Schuon, Lings, and Nasr, who are the leading representatives of the Traditionalist School of Thought. This section introduces the Traditionalist School's understanding of art within the framework of Sacred Art and Traditional Islamic Art. In the third and last part of our study, we mainly compared the Traditionalists' understanding of art and modern art theory. At this point, the criticisms of the Traditionalists' knowledge of modern art and their alternative art views are included. In our study, considering the differences between modern and traditional art, based on the relationship of art with truth, It is shown how traditionalists put forward a new view of art.
