Sulakyurt settlement of Ardahan in the light of art historical data

The main theme of this study is the settlement of Sulakyurt in Ardahan province. The settlement, also known as Sarzep or Nikolayevka, is among the important settlements in Ardahan with its cultural assets. However, no subjective study on the settlement has been conducted to date. For this reason, within the scope of the study, it was decided to create a holistic study under the title of "Sulakyurt Settlement of Ardahan in the Light of Art Historical Data", covering the entire cultural texture in the settlement. During the study, first of all, the cultural assets in the settlement were tried to be identified. In this context, a literature review was conducted and the information of the village people was also consulted. Thanks to the data obtained, location and material were identified. Then, field investigations were carried out in line with the permission obtained from the General Directorate of Cultural Heritage and Museums of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism. During the field studies, many cultural assets dating from the Ancient Age to the present day were examined and analyzed, and it was questioned whether there was a connection between the relevant cultural assets thanks to the findings obtained. In addition, the similarities and differences between the cultural assets identified were tried to be conveyed by making comparisons with their counterparts in the immediate vicinity. As a result, the findings show that the first traces of settlement in the settlement date back to the Bronze Age and that the settlement continued to be inhabited in the Middle Ages and beyond. In particular, the cultural assets belonging to the Russian occupation and the Republican period reveal that the settlement was home to both Malakan and Turkish cultures in recent historical intervals.
