Display aesthetics from artshowcases to home showcases

Throughout history people have collected objects for different reasons and this became a passionate occupation for them. However, the tradition based on the logic of arranging and displayingof collected objects started with `Wunderkammers' during the Renaissance period. The meaning of the object in Wunderkammers which are considered to be the origin of collections and museums has undergone changes in the shopping malls and store windows of the modern age. The rare has become ordinary and the unobtainable has become affordable.Bauhaus Art and Design School, which was founded in 1919 and had a lasting influence on the art movements, was also applied to the aesthetic and functional mass productionas a result oftrying to bring art and craft together. This led to the emergence of design objects.Encouraged by Marcel Duchamp's works that involve ordinary objects such as urinals and snow shovels in artistic context, the artists began to produce works based on the opinion that an object could be the main idea of a work. In these works, which started to be visible from the second half of the 20th century, the artists arranged and exhibited the objects with a showcase aesthetics. From the 1970s, some photorealistic artists have been treated as art images and produced paintings, and showcases have been taken into the photorealistic context. Artist showcases arranged with display aesthetics and home showcases, which are a personal display area, build the research area of this theses. The art-historical references of the showcase transformation into a presentation space as a form or idea and the counterpart of home showcases in art will be examined. In the examples that will be studied in chronological order from pop art to today, the reasons behind the art language, developed by the artists with the urge to collect objects, will be investigated. In addition, it will be focused on the examples where the showcases, which have turned into art objects, are handled as art images by photorealistic artists.In the application area, it will be researched what the personal world, created with the objects exhibited in home showcases, indicates in terms of cultural, political, sociological and psychological aspects, and art works related to this subject will be conducted.
