An examination of an art educator, an artist Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Demirtaş's artistic life, his distinctive educational perspective as well as his powerful art works

This study aims to examine the life story, artistic productions, and contributions to art education of Prof. Dr. İsmail Hakkı Demirtaş, a prominent figure with a dual identity as an artist and art educator, through a multidimensional perspective. The research was conducted using a qualitative research method, with semi-structured interview forms developed by the researcher as the primary data collection tool. The data were obtained through in-depth interviews with the artist himself, personal archive documents, artwork catalogues, and literature reviews. The study includes technical and thematic analyses of Demirtaş's works and explores how his artistic identity integrates with his educational approach. The study group consists of Demirtaş's own narratives, documents reflecting his professional career, and detailed records of his original artworks. The research focuses on Demirtaş's early years, his education in art at Gazi Education Institute, his academic experiences in Germany, and his subsequent career as a teacher and academic in Turkey. His artworks are classified and analyzed in terms of technique and theme, and the relationship between his artistic production and educational philosophy is evaluated holistically. The findings indicate that İsmail Hakkı Demirtaş holds a unique position in the field of art education, not only through his artistic works but also through his pedagogical approach and practice-based teaching. His multifaceted identity as an artist-educator significantly contributes to the literature on art education and serves as an inspiring model for future generations of artists and educators.
