In the context of inter-arts interaction painting and poetry relations

The images that make up the first spark of artistic creation comprise of views, events and facts that are visualized in the consciousness of the artist through his/her perceptions of outer and inner worlds. At the same time, artifacts that emerged at the end of the artist's self-expression process contain images. These images can be visual or literary images. In this thesis, the relation of these two arts in history is examined based on the image dialogue between painting and poetry in the context of inter-arts interaction. In the first part of the study, the concept of image is emphasized, and poetic images and pictorial images are scrutinized by giving examples. In the second part of the study, the historical process of the relationship between painting and poetry is examined in the light of the discussions of ―ut pictura poesis‖, ―paragone‖ and ―Laocoon‖; and afterwards opinions and examples from 19th, 20th and 2st centuries are given. In addition, it is aimed to examine the semantic and formal relationship between painting and poetry by investigating ―ekphrastic poetry‖, ―concrete poetry‖ and ―visual poetry‖. In the last part of the study, in the context of the interaction between painting and poetry in art history, a part of painters who are inspired by poems and versatile artists who are poets and painters were introduced. The vorks that contain the relationship between painting and poetry were examined. Also, in this section, a part of the exhibitions that about interaction of poetry and painting in Turkey were examined. Finally, the painting studies that showing the transformation of poetic images into pictorial images are included. Painting and poetry, which sometimes entering a struggle for supremacy, sometimes establishing parity, and sometimes establishing friendly relations by accepting their differences, are two branches of art which have a connection in every period of history. This connection from antiquity to the 21st century empowers inter-arts interaction and enables artists to look at each branch of art as a source of inspiration and thus opens new horizons.
