Examination of expression with material in art with respect to texture

In the 20th century, it is seen that artists searched for different materials and displayed various technical approaches. These changes not only changed the appearance of the paint on the surface within the process but also enabled the use of texture and the transformation of the material into a form of expression. The change and individualization of the expression styles of the artist also affected the approaches of contemporary artworks and artists in the process. In contemporary art, it is seen that the works of artists differ from their period characteristics in terms of expression, meaning, material, and form elements. By forcing the traditional definitions of art, artists involve processes in which they search for different pursuits in terms of expression and form. In this thesis, the expression forms of the artists in contemporary art, the use of materials and textures were examined through the changes in art in the 20th century in this context. In particular, the works of Anselm Kiefer, Damien Hirst, and Cai Guo-Qiang are examined in terms of their similarities with the changes that took place in art in the 20th century and their expression forms from canvas painting to installation art. In this thesis, the forms of expression exhibited by the artists in the process with the change of texture and material in the art are discussed and clarified have been brought to the changing appearance of art through contemporary artist examples.
