Abstract (EN)
SAP consultants are integral to successful enterprise resource planning implementations, tasked with the multifaceted responsibility of deeply understanding client needs, meticulously analysing intricate business processes, and subsequently designing and implementing highly customized SAP solutions to meet specific requirements. A particularly critical and labour-intensive aspect of their role involves the conversion of functional documents, which outline business requirements, into precise technical specifications that guide application development, system configuration, test scenarios, and user training. To address this significant bottleneck, a new study introduces an innovative solution named the "SAP Virtual Expert" an automated advisor designed to function as an AI-driven counterpart to a human consultant. By leveraging the sophisticated capabilities of Microsoft's Azure AI services and advanced large language models, such as OpenAI's groundbreaking multimodal model GPT-4o, the Virtual Expert automates the arduous task of generating not only the Functional Specification (FS) and Technical Specification (TS) documents but also creating foundational ABAP code directly from the initial business requirements. Furthermore, its capabilities extend to analysing existing codebases to retroactively generate and rewrite these critical documents, thereby optimizing business processes from multiple angles. The study conducted to test this system yielded results that surpassed initial expectations; after progressing from an initial 50% document completion rate in early trials, the refined system ultimately achieved a state where it could generate technical documents that were approximately 80% ready for use, including some functional code snippets. This significant reduction in manual effort promises to enable the completion of SAP projects in a considerably shorter timeframe and, thanks to the use of open-source LLMs, paves the way for achieving greater efficiencies in other project stages, demonstrating the profound potential of AI-driven automation to revolutionize traditional SAP consulting practices.
