Özet (EN)

In this study, some technologic properties of heated Oak (Quercus petraea (Mattuschka) Liebl. subsp. iberica (Steven ex Bieb) Krassiln) wood was investigated.Heating wood has since ancient times been a method to dry and modify its properties. Nowadays heat is used in industrial processes for the same reasons.Heat treatment was applied on the wood samples at three different temperatures (120, 150 and 180°C) and three different durations (2, 6 and 10 hours) under atmospheric pressure (± sensitively). As physical properties; oven-dry density and swelling, as mechanic properties; compression strength parallel to the grain, static bending strength and modulus of elasticity were determined. The results indicated that the effects of heat treatment on physical properties especially with dimensional stabilization was found satisfactory. Physical and mechanic properties values generally exhibited a decrease with increasing the exposure durations and temperatures. The obtained results were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan Test, the effects of temperature and duration to physical and mechanical properties were determined. According to the results, increasing temperatures resulted more weight loss on the heat treated specimens than the control specimens. The results indicated that the effects of heat treatment on physical properties of specimens in regard to swelling was found satisfactory. Mechanic and technologic properties generally exhibited a decrease with increasing the exposure durations and temperatures.Key Words: Oak, Quercus petraea, Heat Treatment, Physical and MechanicProperties
