Abstract (EN)
The aim of in this study was to investigate the possibility of using the Upper Jurassic-Lower Creates aged neritic fossil limestones within the borders of Sarnıçköy of Azdavay district of Kastamonu province as marble. Scientifically marble; limestone and dolomitic limestone are metamorphic rocks formed by heat-pressure metamorphism. Today, all kinds of rocks (igneous, metamorphic and sedimentary rocks) that can be block-giving, cut and polished, durable and attractive are identified and evaluated as marble. In the study; geological map of the field, structural factors were examined and block efficiency was investigated. Physical properties (hardness, volume weight, porosity, water absorption) and geomechanical properties (compressive strength, compressive strength after frost, bending strength under heavy load after frost, bending strength, abrasion resistance, impact resistance) were determined on the samples of fossil limestone taken from the operating quarry producing marble. Turkish Standards were used in the purchase of marble samples from the area, preparation of samples for experimental studies and experimental studies. The neritic limestones with fossils at the area are older than the Upper Jurassic-Lower Cretaceous and are semi-crystallized marble, located in the Inaltı formation. The limestones in the area are rich in calcite and poor in dolomite and other minerals. The limestones in the study area are grey in colour and may be light grey/dark grey in colour from place to place. These colours are called Moron (dark grey) and Diwonhvi (light grey) in the marble market. Experimental studies on the samples showed that hardness value (Mohs) between 3,5-4,0 unit volume weight between 2,65-2,75 g/cm3, visible porosity value between 0,20-0,25%, actual porosity value between 0,50-0,60%, water absorption value by weight between 0,08-0,09%, water absorption value by volume between 0,230-0,255%. Geomechanical experiments in samples; the value of uniaxial compressive strength 1350-1450kg/cm2 between the value of uniaxial compressive strength after freezing 1245-1255kg/cm2 between the bending resistance value under heavy load 135-155kg/cm2 between the value of the bending strength after freezing under heavy load period 12 125-135kg/cm2 between the change in the value of bending strength after freezing under heavy load, 5,63-5,72 kg/cm2 between the bending (flexibility) resistance value of 160-165kg/cm2 between the value of the impact resistance of 5,65-5,75 kg.cm/cm3 between, abrasion resistance 10,1-11,2cm3/50cm2 were determined to be between. The information obtained in this study shows that neritic limestones in the Sarnıçköy (Azdavay/Kastamonu) can be used as marble. The efficiency of marble blocks produced in the quarry varies between 12-20% volumetric. Efficiency value of marble blocks, structural position and properties of Quarry (discontinuities, faulting, etc.)) changes of cracks on the surface according to the degree of exposure to sunburn are factors.
