Suggestion for a decision support system to reduce cooling loads on transparent facades

Abstract (EN)

Regardless of location, direction, location and climatic data, one of the main problems experienced in buildings with transparent curtain wall systems that have similar qualities on all facade surfaces is the increase in energy consumption, which occurs as a result of overheating indoors in the summer months, and therefore, as a result of cooling loads. In the study, it is aimed to identify effective design strategies in order to reduce the cooling load that increases in high-rise buildings with transparent facades in the hot period and to develop a design support system that determines the effect levels of the identified strategies. For this purpose, a comprehensive literature review was conducted to identify cooling strategies whose effectiveness is scientifically accepted. Fifty building examples, which have been implemented, have been accepted in the literature as a sustainable and ecological structure, all of which are transparent, have been analyzed and how cooling strategies obtained from the literature have a place in applications and their effectiveness have been examined. Cross's five-degree scale was used to evaluate the performance and determine the degree of effectiveness of cooling strategies associated with design decision issues. Each strategy was compared with the pairwise comparison method, their importance levels were determined and a relative weight matrix was prepared to determine the effectiveness levels. Finally, using the goal/function scores and goal/function weight values of all strategies, the total goal/function values, where the highest value represents the most advantageous situation, were determined. In order to test the advantageous strategies determined by the system, scenarios were created for the improvement of an existing office building and the cooling loads of these scenarios were calculated with the Design Builder simulation program. The results of the scenarios developed to reduce the cooling load in the existing office building were obtained with the simulation program, the results were analyzed and compared, and the effects of the advantageous strategies determined by the design support system developed as a result of these data on the cooling load were presented. As a result, it has been proven that the developed design support system can guide the designers correctly in the decision-making processes from the first design stage in reducing the cooling loads.
