Abstract (EN)

Objectıve: Inflamatory bowel diseases are common worlwide health problems that results in morbidity and mortality and many efforts of effective treatment are still in progress for them. In this study, we evaluated the effects of ethyl pyruvate (EP), an antiinflamatory and antioxidant agents, in the model of acute rat colitis. Method: Colitis were induced by distal instillation of % 6 acetic acid. Seventeen Wistar albino rat was divided 3 groups. In Sham group ( n=3) , neither colitis induced and nor treatment were given. Both EP groups and SF (fisiologic serum) groups were treated 7 days along by subcutenous administration of equal volume of EP (50 mg/kg) and SF to each group separetely. At the end of this period, rats were sacrified and their distal colonic segments were extracted. Results: On histopathological examination, mucosal ulceration and inflamation were more severe in SP group rather than the EP group; thus EP group had more healing. These result has proved by statistically. MDA analysis results were in EP group more modarate; but, showed no statistical meaning. When comparasion of the mean weight values, EP group has more prominent increase than the SF group; but, also showed no statistical meaning. Conclusıon: EP improves colitis in rats and it may be promising agent for the treatment of inflamatory bowel diseases.Key Words: Colitis, Ethyl Pyruvate, Rat
